という事らしい。
で、（Ｂ）を前提にして考えると、
この題名の "Solitary" は「一人の」というだけの意味でしょうね。（「淋しい」とか、そういう意味は ＿ほとんど＿ ない。）
したがって、「謎の自転車乗り」 が、ヨリ正確な題名かもしれないが、
英語圏でも（Ａ）Miss Violet Smith ＝＝＝ the solitary cyclist
だと思ってる人が多いらしいので、
その誤解まで含めた含蓄の深い題名としては、「孤独な自転車乗り」 という題名も良いかな・・・
と、そう思いました。
